The City Council of Round Rock issued a proclamation naming the week of February 18th through 24th as Freedom Week in honor of the Sertoma Club of Round Rock and its National heritage Program  Bill of Rights performances before 1300 students at twelve elementary schools.  Those students and their teachers were each recipients of a copy of the first ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States.  Two teams of men from the club presented the Bill of Rights appeared as soldiers in Colonial costumes from the 1780’s.  Students from the classes were selected to read the amendments and to teach the Pledge of Allegiance to the time travelers.  The fifth grade curriculum at the elementary schools is teaching students about the Constitution at this time of the year.

An Interesting Note: A teacher at one of the elementary schools stated that 50% of the members of the fifth grade at that school were immigrants.  What an impact we must have made upon them.  President Jim Greene has thanked the participants in his President’s report and he should also be thanked because he was one of the performers.  I add my thanks to all of them, knowing how much the children benefited.  One teacher said it was refreshing to see a club have its members come to the elementary schools, dress up in costumes, and work with the children.
