Get Involved !!

I have heard from numerous sources that our club is one of the more successful civic service organizations in the area. This is measured by the number of members, the active participation of the members and the positive things we do for the community. That is something to be very proud of.

Our contributions to the community are mostly in the form of financial support for those in need. We have recently spent over $20,000 to help our local schools acquire devices to help hearing disabled children hear their instructors during class time. We contributed $14,000 to help the local girls softball program install lighting on their ball fields. We have funded numerous examinations and surgical procedures to help children hear better. We contributed $4,000 to the Blue Santa program to insure that needy children weren't left out of a Christmas celebration. This year we will contribute $4,500 for scholarships, hoping to encourage the recipients to pursue a career in speech & hearing therapy.

The money for these contributions comes from our community, but only if we take the initiative to raise that money. That is one of the major responsibilities that you, as a Round Rock Sertoma Club member, accept.  Fund raising is a lot of work, but there are many rewards.

bulletThe opportunity to hear an ecstatic parent come to the club and report that their young child, for the first time in his/her life, looked up in the sky to see a plane passing over because they actually heard it!!

bulletOr to listen to the superintendent of schools describe the excitement of children who can understand their instructor without having to read lips!!

bulletOr to have one of our scholarship recipients come back and tell us that her education allowed her to be actively involved in speech & hearing therapy (and she also joined the club)!!

The more money we can raise, the more of those rewards you can experience.

Fund raising is an on-going process. Our major events are Casino Night, Christmas Tree sales, the Baseball Banquet and our next one, a Golf Tournament. Right now we need your help with the Golf Tournament. We need sponsors, players and donations of gifts. The deadline is April 9th, so please use your contacts to help us out.

Just as important, make a commitment to get more involved in this process during the coming year. Consider being the fund raising chairman or taking responsibility for one of the events. Each event requires a lot of organization and work to be successful which only happens if it is well managed. You can make the difference!! Talk to any member of the board to learn how you can get more involved.

And thanks for all that you have done already to make such a difference for our community.
