You all know Rufus Honeycutt as a man with enormous commitment, initiative and
perseverance. Now the rest of Round Rock knows what we do! Rufus was recently named
Round Rock Citizen of the Year! I know you join me in congratulating Rufus on this great
honor.
We are well on our way to a great fundraising year! Jim Greene and his team did an
outstanding job planning and executing Casino Night. Our guests had a blast! I received
positive and appreciative comments from attendees who said this year’s event was the best
ever. Way to go!
Plans are well underway for our next fundraiser—the Christmas Tree sale. For those of
you who are new to the club or have not previously been involved in the tree sale, it is
more fun than you can imagine. Throughout the year we walk down the street and meet
happy and not so happy people. Wouldn’t it be nice to get to be around only the happy
folks for once? Well, the Christmas tree sale is your chance. Everybody, and I mean
everybody, who is out to buy the family Christmas tree is a happy person. And we get to
hang out with them! It really does your spirit good. We need volunteers to set up the
lot, sell trees, trim trees, tie trees to cars, take money, cook hot chocolate, make
food and generally help out. There is a job that everyone can do and plenty of time
slots to fit your schedule. Sign up! We are again blessed to have the use of the Wells
Fargo Bank lot at 620 and I-35. Next time you are in the bank, please let your friends
there know how much we appreciate them for supplying the lot.
Wasn’t it great to see ZOI’s at a recent meeting? They are a great group of young people
with aggressive plans for this year. Kristin Stevens is doing a wonderful job as their
sponsor.
The District Leadership Conference was held Saturday, November 9th. DLC’s are a great
way to meet other Sertomans from other Clubs, to get ideas, and learn. It also
fulfills an Award requirement (GEM Hunt and other awards). Plan to attend the next
opportunity.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year, I know we will keep in mind those in our
community who are in need and share our good fortune. Have a great month!

Our resident historian and Veteran,
Cecil Latham presented a special program on November
5th. Cecil shared the heroism and dedication of Korean War hero William Charette, of
Ludington, Michigan. Charette demonstrated bravery and selflessness as he risked his life
in battle to save his comrades. Charette went on to win his country’s highest military honor.
Fellow Sertomans hosted several Round Rock veterans. It was good to see A.J. Latham and
Maxene Felux as well.
We are thankful for all the service men and women who have given so much to protect our
freedoms. Thank you, Cecil, for keeping these memories and blessings a living tribute.
