SEVEN WONDERS

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World."

Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1 - Egypt's Great Pyramids
2 - Taj Mahal
3 - Grand Canyon
4 - Panama Canal
5 - Empire State Building
6 - St. Peter's Basilica
7 - China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student hadn't  turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list.

The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many."  The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World'  are:

1 - to see
2 - to hear
3 - to touch
4 - to taste
5 - to feel
6 - to laugh
7 - and to love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

The things we overlook as simple, ordinary & take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder - that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

"Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons."

ROUND ROCK SERTOMAN OF THE YEAR SELECTION

We have many new members and some seasoned members that do not know the process used to select the prestigious Sertoman of the Year.  Many years ago (not as far back as when Tom Gill was a child) the leadership of the Club anointed the past Sertomans of the Year as the selection committee.  Over time a process was developed and is described below.

The current serving Sertoman of the Year is responsible to call the nominating committee together, order the award plaque and pin, and to prepare for and present the award to the new recipient at the annual awards and installation banquet.

The nominating committee uses a current roster of Club members, removes from consideration all past awardees, and begins the selection process. Each name is read and anyone present may ask that the person named be considered. The names selected for consideration are written on a white board then discussed individually for their contributions to Sertoma  by serving in office and volunteer activities, community involvement, personal attributes, recruiting, and anything that members of the committee believe should be considered. No negative comments, no lobbying, and no arguing are allowed.

Once everyone is considered and notes written about the reasons they should be selected a secret vote or votes are taken to choose the Sertoman of the Year.

The selection committee meeting is announced at a regular meeting and any Club member may nominate any Club member by writing their reasons for the nomination and give that information to any of the past Sertomans of the Year.
