From Our President

If you weren’t in Boerne the last weekend in April you missed a great time.  Tom Gill and his dedicated team of volunteers put on an absolutely fabulous convention event.  The meetings were substantive, the facility was beautiful and the social interaction was lively.

As a “first timer” convention attendee, I was very impressed by the activities of the various clubs around the region.  I found each club to have a unique approach to their work.  Some are very small, some have been around for a very long time, some are thriving, some struggling to find new members to carry on the tradition.  The one thing that all the clubs had in common was an enormous need to serve.  Each is have a wonderful impact on their community.

During the event, we became aware of a local family in need.  The husband was killed while serving in the military in Iraq.  He left a wife expecting a child any day.  One of the Sertomans at the meeting suggested the $100 or so dollars of fines that had been collected be given to the family.  All agreed and the suggestion was made to pass the hat for some additional funds.  At dinner the next evening, Tom Gill presented the collected funds for the family.  The sum had grown to $1,200.

This is only one of many examples of how Sertomans step forward to help.  We heard of many more during the convention.

We heard some other good news at convention.  Dottie Gill was named Sertoman of the Year for both the Heart of Texas District and The Southwest Region.  Likewise, Crystal Agnew was name Serteen of the Year for District and Region.  Congratulations.

Please remember that our golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, June 6 at noon at Blackhawk Country Club.  We need players, hole sponsors and goody bag items.  Please help!
