PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Well, the club is moving right on target. Casino Night is upon us and thanks to Mike Parker and his committee everything is coming together and we expect to have a great turnout.
Next on the agenda and coming up fast is the Xmas Tree Lot set-up on November 22, 2003 and Xmas Tree Sales to start on November 29th. We hope all of you will pitch in and help Richard Prete and his crew to make this a profitable fundraiser as it has been in previous years. Folks, this is our biggest fundraiser so let’s get everyone involved, sign up early and often.
I want to take this opportunity to say WELCOME to Kyle Corley our newest member. Kyle was brought into the club by Charlie Culpepper. We look forward to Kyle being an active member.
Starting Mid-November, we will begin our Ice Cream Socials at the local Nursing/Assisted Living facilities in the area. Bill Beare’s sister-in-law, Deloris Schoenfeld and I have made lap blankets to present to the Residents. They look forward to our Ice Cream Sundaes, but especially conversation. I will be sending a sign-up sheet and I hope some of you will help this year. We go to seven homes and would like at least 3 members to assist.
I am happy to see the great attendance at the meetings. I know it’s hard to get up at such a gosh awful time of morning but to me, it means the members are committed to our community’s needs. Thank you all.

For the month of October we had overall attendance of 54% and 26 Sertoman's with perfect attendance.
We added 2 new members one which has not been voted on Doug Pittman, but I have his application and money. Charlie Culpepper was his sponsor.
On Tuesday, the 28th we discovered there were no donuts to be had at the meeting so the Sergeant At Arms (who was late) was sent looking for the holes in our system and will not let this happen again.

4th Annual Express Winter Baseball Banquet
The Baseball Banquet will be held on January 24, 2004. This is one week before the sailing of the Sertoma Cruise to Mexico and the Super Bowl (Marvin believes the Cowboys will be playing).
The banquet began as the result of a committee investigating ideas for a spring fund raising event and has blossomed into a wonderful experience for young Central Texas ball players. There are stories of players asking their parents for their first suit to look real sharp (Nolan Ryan is usually there and he is a god to these guys) and there is the first time trying to autograph a baseball. That autograph thing is tough on a small round object.
(Nolan Ryan is usually there and he is a god to these guys) and there is the first time trying to autograph a baseball. That autograph thing is tough on a small round object.
The players recognized are Express Player(s) of the year and Cen-Tex Players of the year. There are Professional, College, and High School players honored. Ask anyone that has attended and they will tell that witnessing these fine young men is a moving experience. Our own Randy Thomas's son was an honoree last year. I am sure Randy would share his experience and his son’s reaction to being selected.
The program goes like this: social hour, welcome, dinner, awards, and a super nationally known guest speaker. Charlie Culpepper can tell you about the caliber of these speakers and how moving their messages are.
This year I am serving as chairman and I want to involve as many members as possible. The plan is to have those that have experience with the banquet partner with folks that haven’t to accomplish various tasks that will make this year’s banquet another wonderful memory for the honorees and guests. Take a look at who has joined the team so far and you can see that it is a good opportunity for newer members to learn from the experienced players.
Team members are Charlie Culpepper, Jon Koch, Marvin Felux, Kent Ochel, Mark Meyer, Tom Gill, Dot Gill, Deke Kittrell, Chris Scott, Randy Thomas, Wes Carlson, Kevin Wilson, Tino Hernandez, Bill Buckler, Mike Whepley, and Dick Reid.
The teams will be:

Regarding the Absence of Donuts the Other Day...
The missing donuts were found and delivered to the Firemen that water our Christmas trees. Those donuts were given mouth to mouth resuscitation by several firemen but alas none could be saved. You could see their eyes were all glazed over and their skin turned yellow, but I think they got a decent burial in the end.
