The President's Message

Last year was a great year for the Round Rock Sertoma Club.  We were very involved in many successful fundraisers, which allowed us to give both our time and our treasure back to our community.  Believing in what we do and why we do it is what makes us Sertomans.  We were also very successful at growing the club.  We have a lot of new members that have become very active already.  This truly shows the energy, leadership, and commitment we have from our members.

From fundraisers to socials, the club has strengthened it's friendships not only amongst members, but also the community.  We have and continue to make a difference in our community and each others lives.  This is not always an easy task in today’s world.

In the coming year I look to leverage the experience and the talents of all of our members.  We come from many walks of life and possess many different talents.  We must leverage them all.  If we continue to learn more everybody wins.

We will continue to focus on our five main fundraisers; Christmas Tree Sales, Casino Night, Baseball Banquet, Golf Tournament, and Frontier Days.  Not only are these awesome opportunities to raise money, but to continue to grow our membership and our camaraderie with fellow Sertomans.  We will shoot for a 10% increase in profit in our five main fundraisers.  These will be lofty goals considering the success we have had, but I feel confident we will rise to the challenge and once again deliver stellar results.

Membership is also something we will focus on.  Let’s continue, as we did last year, to bring in top notch people.  This makes the club stronger and more talented for any challenge that may be brought before us.  It also makes us a closer club.

In short, I, and my board, look forward to serving you and making this a very successful year for the club.  We can not do this without the help of all of you.  At the end of my term the only questions I will ask are:

Did we remember our charter and use it as guidance in what we did?

Did we make a difference in our community and each others lives?

And did we have fun doing it?

If we can answer the above questions with yes, then I will have considered my term as President a success.  I look forward to the upcoming year.

Goin’ Golfin’ to Benefit RR Health Clinic

On June 11th, 2004, we held a golf tournament to benefit the Round Rock Health Clinic and other Sertoma charities. It was a good push at the end that got us the players and a quality event will help keep the tournament as an option for future fundraisers.

I would like to thank the members of the committee, Rufus Honeycutt, Joe Lehane, Kent Ochel, and Mike Parker, for their support and expertise.  A big ”Thank You” goes to Jim Greene and Richard Prete for their help with registration and to the Sertoma members for helping to bring players and sponsorships for the tournament.

As of this newsletter, the drawing for a night of baseball in the luxury suite at Dell Diamond (donated by Bob Wunsch of Avery Ranch Golf Club) will have been held.  We had 500 tickets printed with a $5.00 per chance to win.  The Sertoma Club will provide food but not drinks to the lucky winner.  The committee would like to thank the membership for their help with the raffle ticket sales from our club and the partnership with the Round Rock Health Clinic.  The clinic and its' board took 200 tickets to sell.
