Sponsorship Activities

The Sponsorship Committee had its most recent regularly scheduled meetings on April 6h and May 4th. The Sponsorship Committee and the Board have approved the following items:

Abagail Smith is a 5-year old little girl who has experienced substantial hearing loss. The condition surfaced at 18 months of age and she has shown significant regression in speech and communication abilities since that time. She currently attends The Language Workshop, a private school in Round Rock. The club agreed to donate $825 to purchase some specialized “therapeutic listening” equipment to perform hearing therapy on a daily basis.  The equipment will be loaned to the family until Abagail is old enough to enroll in RRISD; at that time the equipment will be donated to the district.

Sarah Rhodes is a student at Old Town Elementary who is in need of hearing aids.  The club has agreed to fund up to $1,000 to help her get the needed aids.

The club sponsored tuition (totaling $775) for two (2) children at a specialized summer camp program at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.  The center offers programs for children with disabilities and learning disorders.  In addition, the program is a training ground for RRISD audiologists and special education staff with a chance to see how the work they do impacts others outside of a school environment.

The Board approved a donation of $5,000 towards the Texas Dentists for Healthy Smiles – 2004 Mission of Mercy.  The event will be in November this year and the club plans to be heavily involved in this outstanding volunteer effort.

Other items of interest include:

The Scholarship Selection Committee has awarded 8 $500 scholarships to students from Round Rock, McNeil, and Stoney Point High Schools.  This year we created a new scholarship category specifically for our Serteen Club at RRHS.  We wish those students the best of luck in their upcoming college careers!.

The club recently participated in the First Annual Round Rock Family Field Day at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.  We had four volunteers that contributed 12 hours of SERvice TO MAnkind!

Our approved Sponsorship Spending for the year now stands at $25,012!!!.

Don’t forget!  The Sponsorship Request Form is  the form is now available for submission online through the club web site at: http://www.rrsertoma.org/sponsorship_request.htm

NOTE: Regularly scheduled Sponsorship Committee meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at Brath General Contractors at 6:30PM.   All interested members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Frontier Days Coordination

Special thanks to Wes Carlson and Jim Greene for stepping up to the plate and assuming responsibility for coordination of the Sertoma Beer Booth fund raising event for Frontier Days. With the migration of our club web site through three (3) different hosting companies, participation in the Sponsorship Committee and setting up a new accounting system for the club, Dick Reid was on the verge of commitment overload!  Please give Wes and Jim your full support by volunteering to staff the Sertoma Beer Booth during the Frontier Days celebration.  This is an important event for our club - we not only have the opportunity to increase our revenue and our charitable sponsorship, this is also an excellent way for us to increase the visibility of the Round Rock Sertoma Club in our community.
