The President's Message

Well, those of you who were not able to make the “Sertoma Cruise” missed out on a good time.  Sertomans as well as their friends totaling 24 couples made this a memorable trip.  Had a great time with old friends and made some new ones.  It was also a Bon Voyage to Kim Haugen and family who have been transferred to Chicago.  We will miss them and hope for a speedy return to Texas.

Jim Greene is holding a Sertoman of the Year Meeting, Thursday, February 26th, 6:30pm at Braths for all past SOY’s to choose the new candidate for 2004 -  2005. Chris Scott and his committee are also compiling names for a new Service to Mankind recipient.  Any one who thinks they know of someone who deserves this honor, see Chris.  The recipient should be a volunteer and not a paid employee.  He/She should be deeply involved in community service in Round Rock.

April 22nd - 24th are the dates for the Southwest Regional Convention.  This year it is held in Fort Worth at the Holiday Inn North (Meacham Blvd. Exit). The room rate is $70/night. The hotel number is 817-625-9911.  Will get back to you with Registration Information. I hope we have a good turnout this year.  There will be a lot to discuss and it also  gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming realignment.

I again wish to welcome Clint Bell our newest member.  I am sure Mark will get him involved quickly.

Our best to Joe Lehane and family on the loss of his Mother.  We pray Fred Adams recovers quickly and brings him back to our Sertoma Family. Ann Shove is recovering from foot surgery and we should see her soon.

Kim and Richard displayed their true colors on the cruise when they “came out” during the Sertoma cocktail party.

Thanks to all of you who make our Round Rock Sertoma a great club!

Golf Tournament Our Next Event

On June 11th, 2004 the Round Rock Morning Sertoma Club will host a golf tournament at Avery Ranch Golf Club.  Proceeds will benefit the Round Rock Health Clinic and other Sertoma charities.  Registration will begin at noon with lunch and free driving range balls included. The four man scramble will begin at 1:30 PM.

The Round Rock Health Clinic began in 1995 with the help of St. David's Round Rock Hospital.  Due to financial concerns, St. David's moved away from sponsorship and two nurses took on the job with their own money.  Today it is in a new location at 2120 N. Mays.  They had 14,225 patient visits in 2003, most on a reduced fee basis.  We believe this is a worthy organization that benefits the health of our Round Rock community and could possibly be an annual benefit golf tournament that would grow in scope and stature.

How can you help?

1.  Work with the tournament committee

2.  Ask your golfing buddies to participate

3.  Ask your business friends to sponsor holes, lunch, golf carts, beverage carts, etc.

We will have Andy Martinez, CEO of the Round Rock Health Clinic, speak at one of our upcoming meetings to help energize our focus on the golf tournament.

March is the third month of the year according to the Gregorian calendar, which is used in almost all the world today. It was the first month on the early Roman calendar and was called Martius. Later, the ancient Romans made January 1 the beginning of the year, and March became the third month. March has always had 31 days. Its name honors Mars, the Roman god of war.

March brings in spring and ends the winter. Spring in the northern half of the world begins with the vernal equinox, which occurs on March 19, 20, or 21. On this day, the center of the sun is directly over the equator.
