18th Annual Casino Night Is History

How does one measure the success of a fund raising event such as Casino Night?  Is it the amount of money raised, is it the amount of contributions from merchants for either auction items or gaming tables, is it the number of people who attended the event, is it the participation of the Club's members who helped with the event, is it the satisfaction of the people who attended the event, or is it a collaboration of all of the above factors?

Well, as chairperson of the 18th Annual Casino Night, I would suggest that the success of this year's event was a collaboration of all of the above factors. Touching on all the above items, here are the results:

bulletWhile not all revenues/expenses are fully accounted for, it is estimated that Casino Night 2004 should net about $12,200, which is about $2,800 less than 2003.  Had this year's event had similar cruise auction revenue, the net would have exceeded last year's results by over $1,000.

bulletThanks to the great efforts of those who in solicited for auction items and table sponsors, as we had many wonderful auction items and generous table sponsors.  The results are also attributable to Sue Greene's superb efforts in preparing the auction sheets and displaying the items.

bulletThis year's ticket sales exceeded 280, which were about 20 percent greater than recent years.  Thanks to Dot and all of you that sold so many tickets, we had one of the largest crowds in recent years.

bulletWhile the start for planning of this year's Casino Night was quite late, it's success can be attributed to all those sub-committee chairpersons and members who "stepped up to the plate" and worked as a TEAM with great TEAM SPIRIT to get the job done.

bulletAnd finally, based on feed back from members and directly from Casino Night attendees, many people said they thoroughly enjoyed Casino Night and would surely make an effort to attend next year's event.

There are so many people to thank when such an event is successfully accomplished. Hopefully I will not slight anyone.  Thanks go out to:

bulletDot Gill for again handling this year's ticket sales, including ticket printing, distribution, and collection at the door.Satisfying Casino Night attendee's hunger was masterfully accomplished by the efforts of Jim Greene, Wes Carlson and their serving crew.

bulletEach Year, Casino Night Libations and Gaming Equipment are almost taken for granted due to the steady hand of Jim Brock.  Jim, thanks for your efforts this year and over the years for consistently arranging for Libations and Gaming Equipment.

bulletThanks to Cliff Woisin and Tom Gill and their "Bar-tenders", they saw to it that all of the Libations acquired by Jim Brock were all gone at evening's end.  Patrons thirsts were quenched and in the process the "Bartender Crew" came up with about $120 in tips.

bulletGift solicitations this year were a real success due to our "Veteran/Rookie Team".  Sincerely, without the dedicated effort of Ron Gorman and sidekick John Hyndman, our auction items were highly bid on, making record monies.

bulletThe gaming operations went without a hitch, thanks to the great efforts of Pete Tisdale who effectively solicited and scheduled those dealers, and Juan Campaneria"Pit-Boss" who had those dealers working to make our attendees have a fun filled evening.

bulletThanks to "Ole" reliable-Mike Whelpley and his new Assistant Fred Adams, chip management was masterfully handled.

bulletThanks to Gerald Boyer for his handling of Publicity/Communications, Table Sponsor fliers and heading the team of "Blue Santa Raffle" ticket sellers--Richard Prete, Kristin Stevens and others.

bulletTom Gill, thanks again for handling the Condo raffle.  This netted over $2,700.  Thanks also go out to Mary Jane Koch who combed the crowd selling 20-25 raffle tickets the night of the event.

bulletWell without Set-up and Teardown, Casino Night would not happen.  Thanks to Kent Ochel and his crew of 10+ Club members this effort went with a hitch.  Kent, thanks for you efforts in getting the sound system.

bulletLast, but not least, my thanks go out to Marvin Felux for being Master of Ceremonies.  You did that skillfully and very efficiently.

THANKS, to all the other Club members who participated to make this event the success it was.  Additionally, thanks to all those Police and others who helped - your efforts are much appreciated.

In summary, thanks to all that made Casino Night 2004 the success it was.  A special thanks to all those people who attended the event and who support SERTOMA.
