Texas Mission of Mercy 2004

Clients being taken to doctors in Georgetown in 2003

Dell Diamond will host the 2004 Mission of Mercy in Round Rock, November 12—13 sponsored by the Texas Dental Association, Texas Dentist for Healthy Smiles, and the Tenth District Dental Society according to Sertoman Kent Macaulay, DDS.  Kent has been deeply involved in this program to bring health services to those in need.

Last year in Georgetown 1350 dental patients were served, 561 patients saw vision specialists, of whom 365 went home with new glasses.  Sixteen cases of glaucoma were discovered.  250 flu shots were given and 150 tetanus shots as well.  The patients ranged in age from 2 to 94.

You and your friends have an opportunity to volunteer as medical volunteers, equipment personnel, food service, lab techs, childcare, translators, general runners, help setup, and breakdown.  Ask your personal doctors and dentists if they would  volunteer their services.

The need is great and there is an application and further information available on the center page of this newsletter.

Pagosa Springs Condo - Fundraiser

The condo is nestled in the picturesque town of Pagosa Springs Colorado.  A view from the back porch takes in Fairway #9 of the adjoining golf course, a beautiful lake and the magnificent Rocky Mountains.  The condo is fully furnished, including cable TV, dishes and washer/dryer.  It has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, one full bath with a vanity outside the bath.  Additional sleeping accommodations include a queen-size sleeper sofa and twin-size sleeper chair in the living room.  Two additional twin mattresses are stored in the bedroom closet.  Numerous summer activities, including trips to Durango and Silverton, as well as excellent fly fishing in the local area.

This condo will be raffled off at our casino night on Oct. 29th.  Tickets are $15 each or two (2) for $25.  The winner will have use of the condo for 6 days, 5 nights, and receive $300 cash to be used for miscellaneous expenses.  I am depending on the club membership to help sell tickets, buy one for yourself, and sell some to your friends.  The raffle will be held during the evening of the casino night and you do not have to be present to win.  The winner of the drawing will have until September 1, 2005 to use the condo.

Contact Tom Gill for tickets.

Interclub Report

On the 9th of August, 11 of our members attended the Northwest Austin Sertoma Clubs meeting. It was a good meeting and I believe that all who attended did enjoy the program and the meeting of new Sertoma friends.

An Austin club member was also in attendance and told us about an up coming meeting that will be held at the "Broken Spoke" in South Austin. This will be a luncheon meeting (cost will be $10.00 each) and Jim Smith, the owner, will be the speaker and will share some "Spoke" history with all of us. When I get the details I will share them with the club.

I extended an invitation to the Northwest Club to visit us, but I don't think there were any takers, especially at our morning start time.

I have given the eleven names to our attendance chair so attendance records can be updated
