The Serteen Clubs
The
Round Rock High School
group
is called
Zoi Ora Filos. These are Greek words
meaning "lifetime friends". Friendship and service are nurtured in this
high school club by volunteering at the Round Rock Parks and Recreation
Department's programs. The girls provide face-painting at Christmas Family
Night and help at the Outlaw Trail and Easter Egg hunt. They also collect
needed items for the Williamson County Crisis Center each spring and canned
goods for the adopt-a-family program at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Social
skills are developed at club-sponsored fundraisers and the Valentine's Ball. Other fundraisers include carwashes and candy sales.
Zoi Ora Filos
also participates in
the Relay for Life event and raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Zoi Ora Filos
earned Sertoma's Publicity,
Honors Club, Youth Incentive, and Gold Community awards for 2001.
The
Zoi Ora Filos
Serteens now have their own web site at
http://groups.msn.com/ZoiOraFilos/home.msnw.
The C.D. Fulkes group is named
The
Round Rock Caring Kids SERteen Club. The group of 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls was
formed in 1985 and the teacher/sponsor has been
Gerry Brown
since the group's inception. All activities carried out by the club are to teach kids
respect for others and themselves, provide low cost ways for students to recognize their
parents, school faculty, other students, and the people in their community. It is all
about teaching values.
